What's your message for our new Prime Minister?

Dear Woow,

Will a new leader mean a new direction for our environment?

Last night was tumultuous, even for Australian politics. At a time when our Prime Ministers can't be expected to last more than two years before being ousted, it's more important than ever to maintain a long-term vision for protecting our environment.

Today is a fresh opportunity to urge our new Prime Minister to be a champion for nature and a safe climate.

We know Tony Abbott was captured by the mining industry and did all he could to support dirty coal power. Our new Prime Minister must do better to lead a 21st century Australia. Malcolm Turnbull is a former Environment Minister, and has spoken publicly in the past about his support for climate action.

But actions speak louder than words, and we can't rest easy hoping the PM's personal beliefs will translate into strong leadership in the party room.

Send your message to our new Prime Minister while he's still forming his policies.

Malcolm Turnbull climate quote

There is so much that needs to change in our government's approach to nature. We're calling on the Prime Minister to:

  • Commit to strong climate action ahead of the global negotiations in Paris in December.
  • Invest in renewable energy to transition Australia away from dirty fossil fuels.
  • Stop the attack on our federal environmental laws - and maintain federal oversight of threatened species and special places like the Great Barrier Reef.
  • Implement our national network of marine sanctuaries.

What do you want your new Prime Minister to do? Create your own message to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

As our new PM settles into his office and plans out the legacy he wants to leave, let's make sure he knows there are thousands of Australians who want to see change for our environment.

Onwards,

Daisy Barham
