Dad finds great way to repurpose leftover crayons from schools and restaurants Posted: 04 Sep 2015 11:18 PM PDT Bryan Ware, an inventive dad from San Francisco recently found out that over 75,000 pounds of crayons get thrown away each year. His interest sparked after he found himself wondering where the crayons went after his kids used them while out to dinner one night. And so the process was born. Bryan first takes old donated crayons and begins his process by melting them down. He then pours the mixture into specially made custom molds. He makes about 95 new crayons each time he does this. These crayons are thicker and easier to grasp for young children and kids with special needs. The finished products are then delivered to children hospitals throughout California. They’ve already delivered more than 2,000 boxes. “If these crayons give them an escape from that hospital room for ten minutes, we did our job,” says Ware.
