Prior Mailing Archive 80,000 Words Down & 20,000 More To Go On Our Next Book On Teaching ELLs! © 2010 Ambernectar 13, Flickr | CC-BY-ND | via Wylio My colleague and co-author Katie Hull Sypnieski and I have completed 80,000 words of the sequel to our last book, the very popular ESL/ELL Teacher’s Survival Guide, and only have 20,000 more to go by September 1st! Though it’s been exceedingly painful to write, as all books are, doing it has definitely made both of us better teachers for our students this fall. I think other educators are also going to find it very helpful, and wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes even more popular than our first book. I’m adding it to The Best Posts & Articles On "Motivating" Students.      • Email to a friend • Article Search • View comments • Track comments • Help Me Find TV/Movie Scenes Showing Good & Bad Classroom Discussions © 2015 U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh, Flickr | CC-BY-ND | via Wylio I like to use short scenes from television or the movies to illustrate concepts I’m trying to teach, and now I’d like to create a “Best” list of clips from TV and/or the movies showing examples of both good and bad classroom discussions – in small groups or in the entire class. These would be clips I’d be showing to students, not as a professional development exercise for teachers. And they don’t even have to be in the classroom – clips of young people talking and demonstrating agreeing/disagreeing/building on what one of them said (or, not demonstrating those kinds of qualities) in any venue would work. Please leave your suggestions and, ideally, links to video clips, in the comments section will be greatly appreciated. Of course, if I include your suggestion in the final “Best” list, you’ll receive full credit.
