Little Dog vs. Bears Is A Great Video For ELLs

This would be a great video to show to English Language Learners and then have them describe chronologically what happened.

Excellent Examples Of Deliberate Practice To Use With Students

I regularly talk with students about the concept of “deliberate practice” – see The Best Resources For Learning About The 10,000 Hour Rule & Deliberate Practice.

Here are some new resources I’ll be using in the classroom:

First, the San Francisco Chronicle today published a wonderful article about Stephen Curry headlined Warriors' Stephen Curry has a plan to improve on MVP season. The whole piece is usable in the classroom. Here’s an excerpt:

Here’s an interesting tweet about Mozart’s creative process:

Speaking of Mozart, check out Lessons on Success and Deliberate Practice from Mozart, Picasso, and Kobe Bryant by James Clear.

Finally, on a related not, read this story from the Associated Press, Serena Williams says US Open match was a win, not a loss.

My Latest BAM! Radio Show Is A Very Interesting Conversation About “Grit”

gritbam

“Grit” in the classroom is the topic of my latest BAM! Radio Show. In it, Ebony McGee, Kristi Mraz, Christine Hertz and I have a ten minute conversation on the topic. It’s also the focus of my new three-part series at Education Week.

You can find all my previous shows at All My BAM Radio Shows – Linked With Descriptions.

‘It’s Time To Change The Conversation About Grit’

‘It’s Time To Change The Conversation About Grit’ is the title of my latest column at Education Week Teacher.

Kristine Mraz, Christine Hertz, Ebony O. McGee, Ron Berger, Thomas Hoerr and Dave Stuart Jr. write about “grit” and what it means, and doesn’t mean, for the classroom. I throw my “two-cents” in, too.

Here are some excerpts:

If-a-focus-on-grit

We-must-help-our

My Latest NY Times Interactive For English Language Learners Is On “El Chapo”

chapo

My latest student interactive for English Language Learners at The New York Times is on El Chapo’s escape from prison. Students have to determine correct punctuation in a reading passage and then write if they believe he actually used a tunnel to escape.

You can see all my previous Times’ posts at All My NY Times Posts For English Language Learners – Linked With Descriptions.
