Full Story: Iraqi security forces and Shi'ite paramilitary fighters have seized control of western and southern Tikrit and reached the centre of the city on Tuesday, in their battle against Islamic State (IS) militants. The news came after a push into the city which saw Iraqi forces take control of the governor's headquarters and the main hospital earlier in the day. "Tikrit is liberated today and returned to Iraq by purely Iraqi forces and God willing, after cleaning the houses from bombs by Hashid Shaabi and engineering work, residents can go back to their houses," said Hussein Ahmed, a Shi'ie fighter.
