Thousands of protesters descended on downtown Washington, D.C., on Saturday (December 13) for the 'Justice for All' march to protest the killings of unarmed black men by U.S. police and to urge Congress to protect citizens. Organizers said the protests, which were also scheduled in New York, would be among the largest over police tactics and the killings of black males by officers in New York, Cleveland and Ferguson, Missouri. Before the march, demonstrators chanted slogans, such as "I can't breathe" -- the last words uttered by Eric Garner, an unarmed black man who died after police officer Daniel Pantaleo used a choke hold to detain him. They also cried "hands up, don't shoot" in reference to Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager who allegedly put his hands in the air in a sign of surrender before being shot dead by white police officer Darren Wilson.
