Co-founder of the Carlyle Group, David Rubenstein, recently put up $2.25 million to renovate the JFK museum in Boston. This flies in the face of JFK's staunch anti-corporate and -banking elite belief system. The Carlyle Group is one of the world's largest asset management firms, with almost $200 billion under management. They invest heavily in defense and energy, two verticals JFK railed against. With the money they're putting toward the museum, Carlyle intends on focusing on JFK's initiatives to get Americans on the moon and on his famous "ask what you can do for your country" speech - aspects of JFK's presidency that stay far away from the beliefs that would have condemned Carlyle itself.
