New York Governor Andrew Cuomo legalizes medical marijuana in the state. Full Story: New York state legalized medical marijuana on Monday. According to the new law, medical marijuana will be made available only to patients suffering from cancer, HIV/AIDS, ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), Parkinson's Disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and a few other serious medical conditions. However, the medical marijuana will not be allowed to be distributed in smokable form. Patients and drug makers must register with the state and the state's Department of Health will oversee marijuana manufactures and set the price. Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the bill into law during a ceremony in Manhattan. "The legislation, I feel confident, gets us the best that medical marijuana has to offer in the most protected, controlled way possible. We studied the other states before moving forward.
