Scotsman Dario Franchitti is injured during massive crash on final lap of Indycar Grand Prix of Houston. Full Story: Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti suffered a concussion, spinal fracture and broken ankle after a horror crash on Sunday. The accident happened during the final lap of the Grand Prix of Houston, leaving 13 spectators injured, including two who were sent to hospital. The Scotsman made contact with Japanese driver Takuma Sato on one of the final turns. It sent Franchitti's car airborne into the protective fence before spinning several times while debris was sprayed toward the grandstands. [Scott Dixon, #9 Driver]: "That was a big hit, I hope Dario's okay, he looked like he was moving around when I drove past." Franchitti, 40, was awake and alert when he was admitted to a Houston hospital, where he will stay overnight but will not require surgery for the spinal fracture, said IndyCar in a statement.
