One hundred bright orange, yellow and white umbrellas hovered over Madison Square Park in Manhattan, on Friday the first day of summer.
The display was an effort to offer passersby protection from the sun and to serve as a warning about the dangers of too much sun exposure.
Skin care company La Roche-Posay offered free skin cancer screenings from dermatologists and handed out free sunscreen.
[Angela Bennett, La Roche-Posay Vice President]: "Sunscreen is important for everyday use because we see that one in five Americans are affected by skin cancer. And it's a reality and if you know someone close to you who has been affected, you can't help but ask yourself, 'Was there something we could have done to prevent this?' And in most cases the answer is 'Yes'. It's very simple."
