State Appeals Court rules smelling pot no reason for police to search vehicle in Brockton

The state appeals court has ruled that a police search that resulted in heroin trafficking charges against two men in Brockton was illegal. Police seized heroin from  Andre Lee Damon and Nicholas Loring after stopping them for failure to use a turn signal on Jan. 16, 2009.

State's highest court throws out indefinite jailing of Brockton sex offender

The Supreme Judicial Court on Monday reversed the indeterminately long prison incarceration of Roy Hunt of Brockton, who was convicted in 1990 of three counts of rape of a child and then kept incarcerated indefinitely, as a “sexually dangerous person,” once he concluded his sentence.

DA says murder should not spark fear in Milford

Police have made no arrests in the murder of a Main Street man more than a week ago, but the Worcester District Attorney’s office says public is not in any danger. Investigators from the district attorney’s office and police have been silent about the death of Jose Mendes, 45, who was found murdered in his 322 Main St. home on July 8.

There was no question JJ Branch was going to get the call to open the State Playoffs for his Milford Legion team. Branch has been the ace of the Post 59 staff and the tone-setter for a solid rotation. With the pressure as heavy as the humid air, Branch delivered his best performance of the season and led Milford to a 3-1 win over Hyde Park Post 78 in front of a packed house at Fino Field.
