Local history, modern goals honored at ribbon-cutting for Beaverton street extension

A ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday honored both local history and modern goals for the community of Beaverton and the region as a whole, with the formal opening of the $2.5 million Rose Biggi Avenue extension built with funds from Metro's Regional Flexible Funds program.

This month, Metro releases the ninth edition of its popular Bike There! map, featuring 1,500-plus miles of on- and off-street bicycle routes stretching to the far reaches of the Portland metropolitan region. Bike There! is more than a map. Here are several reasons why.


UNO program celebrates 15 years serving zoo, community

Designed to actively engage historically underrepresented Portland area youth in outdoor recreation and conservation, the program has provided camping trips for 4,561 urban youth and school year programming for 1,054 urban youth since it launched in 2000. The program is a partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service and other community partners.


High-tech roof under construction at Oregon Zoo's Elephant Lands

The roof area covers Forest Hall, the indoor section of the elephant habitat as well as the Elephant Barn, which is a behind-the-scenes area where elephants can be checked out by veterinarians.
