YU announces Project Caesar smartphoneFollowing hard on the heels of Xiaomi and OnePlus, Micromax’s China-based subsidiary Yu Televentures has announced the ‘Project Caesar’ smartphone aimed at its competition, the Xiaomi Redmi 2. In a Twitter teaser that says, “Read Mi (Xiaomi India Logo) Lips… [64bit, 1GB & 8GB], Future is YU [64-Bit, 2GB & 16GB]” with a tag line that says, “It’s not about me, it’s all about YU.” Yu takes a not-so-subtle dig at Xiaomi and outlines the supposedly better performance and higher-end specifications of the new smartphone compared to the Redmi2. Project Caesar is expected to debut with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage which is double the RAM and storage than that on the Redmi2. The phone is also expected to run the powerful new 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor (which is less than the Yu Yureka which is powered by a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor). It might also come with 4G LTE compatibility for high-speed connectivity. Though there is no official comment about the OS that will come out of the box, industry analysts are talking about the Android Lollipop based Cyanogen OS 12. If that happens, this will be one of the rare phones in its price range to offer the latest Android OS. This comes after YU’s last week’s statement where it mocked Xiaomi saying that all contemporary and competitor devices are still stuck with the old Android KitKat 4.4OS, "KitKat in the age of Lollipop, give me a break! (the Xiaomi logo was used to replace the ‘me’)." The teaser however provides no hints on other key features like camera, battery capacity, display size, but sources have mentioned a 5-inch HD display and 8MP rear camera; and with a supposed launch date of April drawing closer, they should be announced pretty soon. It has been rumoured that the phone will debut sometime in April with a price tag of Rs 6,500 but with better features and functionality. We will keep you posted on the new phone as and when we receive further details. On the other hand Yu is currently concentrating on updating its flagship phone – Yureka – that comes with spectacular configuration for a phone of its kind.
