A California woman gives birth to a baby completely incased in its amniotic sac.
Full Story:
A California woman gave birth to a baby while it was still completely encased in its amniotic sac - a rare occurrence that happens in less than one in 80,000 births.
Chelsea Phillips delivered her son Silas Johnson at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center via Caesarean section and the baby was still completely enclosed in his amniotic sac, something known as an 'en caul' birth. Usually the amniotic sac, the fluid-filled sac in which the baby develops, ruptures before birth - commonly called 'water-breaking.'
Silas was born premature at 26 weeks, but, according to the hospital, is healthy and nearly ready to go home.
