Hong Kong's Umbrella Movement is defunct, since police cleared all protest sites earlier in December, but a small guesthouse aims to let tourists get a taste of the experience and keep its spirit alive. Remnants of the protests, including tents and a life-sized cardboard cutout of Chinese President Xi Jinping holding a yellow umbrella, have now found their second home in the guesthouse called the Umbrella Revolution Occupation Experience. Guests can stay in one of three tents obtained from the actual demonstration sites for HK$100 (US$13) per night. Since its opening in mid December, roughly the time when police took down the largest protest site in Admiralty, it has served about 10 tourists. Founder Stephen Thompson, a freelance writer who has lived in Hong Kong for eight years, said he was impressed by the 79-days-long demonstration and wanted to keep the hope for democracy alive.
